A new rumor suggests Sony's untitled animated Spider-Man film will center on Miles Morales—the mixed race Spider-Man who takes over for Peter Park in an alternative Marvel universe.
There are currently two working titles for the Spider-Man film, according to Heroic Hollywood. The titles, Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man and The Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales, seem to draw on Morales appearance in Marvel's Ultimate imprint, which has "separate continuity" from Marvel's main timeline.
Umberto Gonzalez at Heroic Hollywood reports the biggest clue regarding animated Spider-Man's identity was revealed last year at Cinemacon, when Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman announced the film would "exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing."
Sony's animated Spider-Man film is expected to debut on December 21, 2018. The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce the film.
