PlayStation 4 sales officially surpassed 40 million units worldwide as of May 22, 2016. In January of this year, Sony announced total PS4 sales had hit 35.9 million units, meaning over 4.1 million PS4 consoles have been sold in the first half of 2016 alone.
According to Sony, PS4 game sales are also strong, selling a worldwide total of 270.9 million copies, from physical retail games to digital downloads.
The PS4-exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief's End sold over 2.7 million copies in a single week after launching on May 10, making it "the fastest-selling PS4 first party title to-date," according to the PlayStation blog.
In other Sony news, speculation about the PS4's mid-generation upgrade, allegedly codenamed Neo, continues to grow. The most recent report suggests the rumored PlayStation 4.5 will release in September.
