Actor and director Mel Gibson could have played Thor's father Odin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After being asked if he'd ever been approached for a superhero film, Gibson told The Guardian, "Yeah, long time ago, to play Thor's dad." He turned down the role, which was eventually given to Anthony Hopkins.
The role would have placed Gibson in the same cinematic universe as his close friend Robert Downey Jr, who plays Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
And speaking of which, Gibson noted he thought "the first Iron Man" film was "good," and "kind of funny." Gibson said he found Guardians of the Galaxy good, too.
The actor also called the Spider-Man franchise a "retreat."
"I mean, you can watch them do Spider-Man five times, Gibson said. "There is a slight shift in film."
Gibson, "in a way," misses the way films used to be, and how they offered "more variety of stories, films, and performances."
Gibson's latest film, Hacksaw Ridge, which stars former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, is expected to debut in 2016.
