GameStop announced today its commitment to getting virtual reality experiences into the hands of as many gamers as possible.
"All our larger stores will have VR demos," the company announced during its investor call. Currently there are 10 GameStop locations with HTC Vive demo units, and the company said it plans to increase that number to 100 in the near-term. Eventually hundreds of locations will have VR demos.
It mentioned demo units for the upcoming PlayStation VR unit will be coming, as well, with the philosophy being VR sells better when customers have a chance to get hands-on time with the units.
For smaller retail locations, GameStop still plans to provide support for demos of virtual reality devices, however it didn't reveal any specifics.
GameStop sees virtual reality as a possible $6.9 to $13.6 billion potential market between 2016-2018.
GameStop reported its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year today, with total global sales declining 4.3% and "a 28.8% decline in new hardware sales" negatively affecting video game sales, the company stated in its earnings release.
PlayStation VR was "going to be terrible" on launch PS4 consoles, according to one source. The power required to run the unit might be the reason behind both the external VR processing unit and the beefed-up PS Neo.
