No Toyota in Need for Speed Payback, Either

First Forza, now Need for Speed.

Ghost Games has confirmed that Toyota vehicles will not feature in Need for Speed Payback. The news comes via a post from a Ghost spokesperson on the Need for Speed subreddit (via GTPlanet).

“We know the subject of Toyota is on a lot of minds over the last few weeks,” began the statement. “As many of you here suspect, there will be no Toyota cars in Need for Speed Payback. While we’re as disappointed as you are, we do hope that we’ll once again see Toyota back in Need for Speed in the future.”

Need for Speed Payback now finds itself in the same boat as Forza Motorsport 7. Microsoft confirmed in early August that production Toyotas would not be included in Forza 7.

Neither company has elaborated on the specific reason Toyota vehicles cannot be featured in Need for Speed Payback or Forza Motorsport 7 this year. IGN has contacted Toyota for comment.

Toyota’s history with the Need for Speed series dates back over 20 years, all the way back to the original The Need for Speed for 3DO in 1994, which featured a Mark 4 Supra RZ.

2015’s Need for Speed reboot featured three Toyotas, including the iconic AE86 Sprinter Trueno, a Supra SZ-R, and the latest GT86.

Toyota is the largest producer of automobiles in the world, and the second-largest auto company in terms of revenue, behind Volkswagen Group. The manufacturer's absence from the tuner-focused Need for Speed is particularly anomalous considering the company has produced some of most popular tuner cars and engines in history.
