Microsoft recently enabled pre-loading for Forza Motorsport 7 ahead of the game's launch next week, and many users attempting to pre-load Forza 7 from the Windows Store have experienced a download error, resulting in hours of lost progress.
In an official statement made to US Gamer, a Microsoft representative said Forza developer Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft are looking into the problem. According to their statement they are actively working with the Windows Store team on a fix, but offered no time frame for when the issue might be resolved.
The error causes the game's nearly 100GB download to error out at random and restart from 0. Some users reported getting as far as 60GB into the download before experiencing the error. Depending on your internet speed, that could be hours of lost time. For users with data caps the issue is even greater, deterring them from retrying the download for fear of losing all their monthly data.
One Reddit user posted his chat with a Microsoft representative, who placed the blame on "unforeseen network congestion." Another Microsoft rep offered up this fix to one frustrated buyer.
IGN has experienced this error as well, and we can only hope the issue is resolved in time for the game's October 3 release on Xbox One and Windows 10. If you are interested in learning more about the game, read our recent hands-on Forza 7 impressions.
