Your Name: J.J. Abrams to Produce Live-Action Remake

Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer will pen the script.

Director Makoto Shinkai's hit anime film Your Name is getting a live-action adaption at Paramount Pictures, and J.J. Abrams is on board to produce.

According to Deadline, Toho Co. is working with Paramount and Bad Robot to bring a live-action adaptation to theaters around the world, with Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer set to pen the script.

Shinkai expressed his enthusiasm for the live-action adaption, saying, "When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of—I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation."

Your Name is the all-time highest-grossing film to come out of Japan, earning a global sum of $355.2 million when it debuted last year. The film was released in North American theaters this past April and had one of the 10 biggest domestic openings ever for an anime movie.

Abrams, who directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and is on board to helm Episode IX, will produce alongside  Lindsey Weber for Bad Robot. The original film's producer, Genki Kawamura, is also on board as a producer. Toho will handle the film's distribution in Japan.
