New Company Formed to Focus Entirely on PUBG

Bluehole's former VP will lead the new company.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developer Bluehole has announced the formation of PUBG Corp., a subsidiary devoted to the game.

"Given PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' global success, we want to ensure that we have the operational efficiency that is required to support the game globally," said PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim, who previously served as Bluehole's vice president. "This new structure allows us to be nimble as we look toward the expansion of strategic business opportunities that include the game’s potential in the esports sector and the growth of PUBG as a true global IP franchise."

In an effort to create "more centralized points of contact for players around the world," the newly formed subsidiary has opened an office in the United States, with locations in Europe and Japan to follow.

Alongside the announcement, the South Korean developer revealed PUBG has now sold over 13 million copies — up from 10 million earlier this month. The wildly successful Early Access game also recently passed Dota 2 to claim the Steam record for highest number of concurrent players.

Shortly after H1Z1 developer Daybreak said without its game "there wouldn’t be a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds," Bluehole stated it was "concerned" with similarities seen in Fortnite's recently released Battle Royale mode.
