Lynda Carter Tells James Cameron To "Stop Dissing" Wonder Woman

Carter is standing up for her fellow Wonder Woman Gadot

Lynda Carter, who helped popularize the character of Wonder Woman with her portrayal of the Amazonian on 1970s television, has taken James Cameron to task for his recent comments on Wonder Woman.

Cameron, the director of such films as Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Avatar, has been quite critical of the recent Wonder Woman film directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot.

Cameron called the Wonder Woman of Jenkins' film a "step backwards" for female representation. After getting backlash for his statement, Cameron stood his ground in terms of his criticism, particularly in comparison to his own character of Sarah Connor, as portrayed by Linda Hamilton.

Carter has stood up for Jenkins, and Gadot, against Cameron, stating on Facebook:

"To James Cameron -STOP dissing WW: You poor soul. Perhaps you do not understand the character. I most certainly do. Like all women--we are more than the sum of our parts. Your thuggish jabs at a brilliant director, Patty Jenkins, are ill advised. This movie was spot on. Gal Gadot was great. I know, Mr. Cameron--because I have embodied this character for more than 40 years. So--STOP IT."

Carter played Wonder Woman from 1975 through 1979, so her claim that she understands the character certainly rings true. Cameron has not been pushed off his opinion so far, and Carter's statement may not change that, but Jenkins and Gadot find themselves with a new ally in this debate.
