New Atari 2600 Retro Handheld Console Announced

Retro gamers rejoice!

While Atari has already unveiled a brand new console to come, an Atari 2600 Nintendo Switch-style hybrid handheld/home console device has been revealed called the Atari Retro Handheld.

Seller Funstock Retro has revealed the new device, which features a 2.4-inch screen to play games directly on the device, but it also comes with an A/V TV output. Check out the system below:

The Atari 'Retro' Handheld has a "wood" effect to give the console the vibe of the classic 2600, as well as an analog control stick and "super responsive" buttons. And in the vein of the NES and SNES Classic Editions, the device comes with a whopping 50 games built into it. This library includes Asteroids, Breakout, Pong, Centipede, and Millipede.

The appeal here is the opportunity to play a bunch of classic Atari games in the palms of your hands, and for those interested, the Atari 2600 throwback is currently available for preorder with an expected availability of this Christmas.

Additionally, Atari has a new device, the Ataribox, on the way after a tease this June. Atari more recently offered details about the system, promising it would be able to run classic games and "current gaming content." The console will feature an HDMI output, 4 USB inputs and an SD card slot. It will come be released as a wood grain edition, or a black and red edition.
