A massive week for esports fans as The International 7 kicks off in Seattle, with Group Stage dominating the week. Back home, the OPL is closing in on the playoffs and Counter-Strike featured some world class match-ups as teams looked ahead to competitions in China later this year.
We're still updating our calendar and if your Aussie event isn't on it we want to know! We're all about the Dota 2 this week, although we're struggling with those 3am starts — the calendar has all the details on how to watch the biggest tournament in esports history! Remember you can email tips to me esportsau@ign.com or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article. Make sure you check out the rest of the esports hub, as well!
CSGO - WCA 2017 APAC Closed Qualifiers
The WCA APAC Closed Qualifiers featured just one Aussie team in the Chiefs, but they performed beautifully as they closed out the tournament against Mongolian team TheMongolz and Singaporean team B.O.O.T-d[S]. B.O.O.T-d[S] placed second, securing a spot of their own at the WCA World Finals alongside the Chiefs. Watch Tucks score an Ace against TheMongolz on Cobblestone as the Chiefs put their stamp on the competition.
CSGO - eXTREMESLAND ANZ Closed Qualifiers
Another set of Qualifiers for a Chinese competition saw new up-and-comers the Kings win their way to the LAN Finals in an impressive performance on the day, not dropping a single round on their way to victory. Athletico Esports dropped to Legacy early in the proceedings and were forced to battle their way through the loser's bracket to make the cut — the second time they ran into Legacy, they didn't drop any rounds. Watch Avant do their best to stop Athletico on cache, with fragger Noisia securing both an Ace and a clutch Defuse — it wasn't enough however.
League of Legends - OPL Week 7
We're back to our regular scheduled broadcast in the OPL as the slightly longer weeks are out of the way, and with just a few weeks left before the playoffs the Dire Wolves are looking very good at the top. The biggest upset came via a 2 - 0 win for Avant Gaming over the otherwise in form Legacy Esports, while the other games seemed to go as expected with wins for the Chiefs, Dire Wovles and SIN Gaming. Watch a bit of a whiff from Legacy turn into a nightmare scenario as Avant snags the Baron and a whole heap of momentum.
Dota 2 - The International 7 Group Stage
The Dota 2 Group Stages are behind us as the biggest esports competition in the world moves onto the main stage in Seattle. With a week of Dota 2 behind us Team Liquid and Chinese teams LGD.FY, LGD Gaming and Newbee were the big winners, dominating their groups and securing the top places in the Main Event bracketing. Aussie players Kpii and ana are on Newbee and OG respectively, and both teams should be able to push further into the competition and do Aussie dota proud! When their teams clashed in the Group Stages, Ana pulled off a cheeky steal on Roshan's Aegis - watch it below.
If there are any fantastic highlights from the AU scene you think we missed above, drop me a line on twitter or tell us in the comments below. I'm all over the good stuff though, so we'll see you next week for more!
