Jessica Jones' second season will feature the return of a familiar face for fans of season 1.

EW has revealed that David Tennant will reprise his role as season 1 villain Kilgrave, with a first photo of Tennant on set with star Krysten Ritter.

The extent of Tennant's involvement in season 2 — whether he's appearing in one or multiple episodes — is unknown at this time. Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg discussed the decision to kill off Kilgrave in the show's season 1 finale last year. Jessica Jones season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2018 and is aiming to explore the show's supporting cast more in the sophomore season. Rosenberg announced last year that the next season will be entirely directed by women.
Before Kilgrave and Jones' returns in the hero's titular Netflix series, she'll appear in Marvel's The Defenders, which debuts on Netflix Friday, August 18, which, according to Ritter, filmed back-to-back with Jessica Jones Season 2.
