Godzilla 2 Director Teases Connection to Original 1954 Film

Will the Oxygen Destroyer return?

The upcoming Godzilla sequel, King of the Monsters, may feature a weapon that was used in the original 1954 film.

Director Mike Dougherty shared an photo on Twitter of the infamous Oxygen Destroyer, which was used by Dr. Serizawa to destroy Godzilla in the 1954 movie. The weapon is able to remove oxygen from any body of water it is placed in.

In both the 2014 Godzilla reboot and the upcoming King of the Monsters sequel, Ken Watanabe plays Dr. Serizawa. Dougherty did not provide any hints about what role the Oxygen Destroyer might have in the new movie, or if Dr. Serizawa will once again be the one to create and use it.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is currently filming, and will be released on March 22, 2019. Godzilla will go up against Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah in the sequel.
