eSports Could Be a Part of the 2024 Olympics

"The youth, yes they are interested in esport and this kind of thing. Let's look at it."

Gaming could join the roster of sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics due to the increasing popularity of eSports among young people worldwide. While it's yet to be decided which specific games will be included, video games will also be featured as an official medal event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

According to ESPN, Paris Olympic bid committee co-president Tony Estanguet will present the proposal to bring gaming to the 2024 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee meeting in Peru next month, hoping to bridge interest in the Olympics for younger generations.

"We have to look at it because we can't say, 'It's not us. It's not about Olympics,'" Estanguet told The Associated Press. "The youth, yes they are interested in esport and this kind of thing. Let's look at it. Let's meet them. Let's try if we can find some bridges."

Back in April, we reported that the 2018 games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia will also feature eSports, a stepping stone towards gaming's potential future as a full Olympic event.
