Destiny 2: Console Testing Leads to PC Beta Changes

Two ways to play.

Bungie's weekly update is live and features some details on Destiny 2's upcoming PC beta, specifically what tweaks are being made to competitive play.

As detailed by Crucible Design Lead Lars Bikken, the developers have been keeping their eyes on player's activities in the console beta and have used what they've learned to further tailor the multiplayer experience — in particular, online matchmaking.

Going forward, Destiny 2, which was recently featured as part of IGN First, will feature two alternate modes of matchmaking, Quickplay and Competitive.

Quickplay is designed for players who want to get into their game quicker. The option reduces loading times comparatively, with the trade-off being that Skill is no longer factored, so there's no guarantee that your opponents are near the same level as you. Quickplay also adjusts the winning score in Control from 75 to 100 and extends the trigger for the Mercy rule, to allow games to last longer and give all Guardians the chance to utilize their abilities.

Competitive continues to be based on the Skill level of the players involved, which Bungie warns may lead to extended wait times to match you up with suitable opponents. Skill calculations in Countdown have also been improved to better reflect your performance.

Sandbox Designer Josh Hamrick has also offered a list of tweaks that have been made in light of the console beta; mostly glitch fixes to tackle infinite Supers, infinite grenades and the beautiful Warlock Glide glitch. Also tweaked is the Warlock melee attack, which will now have the same range as other classes (the exception being when perks increase range).

Also tweaked are Super charge times (as a direct response to player feedback), and increased grenade damage and power drops in PvE.

Destiny 2's director Luke Smith will give the PAX West opening keynote later next month on September 6 for consoles and September 24 for PC. Smith recently discussed how some of the issues players faced in the beta have already been fixed for the full release version.

And for those wanting to say goodbye to Destiny before the sequel hits, the final Trials of Osiris go live tomorrow. As is tradition, Bungie are keeping the map a secret until the Trials go live Saturday at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET/6 p.m. BST/3 a.m. AEST.
