Ganondorf's Last Name Resurfaces on Official Nintendo Site

Dragmire. Mr. Dragmire.

It may not help you beat him in any of The Legend of Zelda games, but Nintendo has reconfirmed one major piece of information about the series' recurring foe Ganondorf — his canonical last name.

The official Legend of Zelda website includes a character compendium, and the entry for the frequent Zelda villain reveals his full name is Ganondorf Dragmire, a name that has seemingly not been used in any official capacity since The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

"Dragmire" was previously used as the character's surname in the English-translated manual for A Link to the Past in 1992. The Legend of Zelda's main trio — Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf — are nearly always referred to solely by their first names.

Nintendo offered a deep, comprehensive look into Zelda lore with the Hyrule Historia, shedding light on the entire franchise's timeline, characters, and more. The online guide in which Ganondorf's biography above appears offers a more general overview of the franchise's history. More recently, The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts, which took a look at art from across the franchise's history.

IGN has reached out to Nintendo for further comment on the use of Ganondorf's last name. No word yet on whether his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dragmire, will also make appearances in a future Zelda title.
