"I connected with her first and foremost as a writer."
Carrie Fisher helped write Princess Leia's dialogue for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
During today's panel for the upcoming Episode VIII, director Rian Johnson revealed that he collaborated with Fisher on the script:
"I connected with her first and foremost as a writer," he explained. "I'd go to her house and sit on her bed for hours, and we'd go through the script."
He described the process as "stream of consciousness, jazz poetry ad-lib sessions", which could sometimes resulted in a single four-word line.
Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy spoke of Fisher's wider performance in The Last Jedi, describing it as "remarkable".
