Patty Jenkins, the director of Warner Bros.' upcoming Wonder Woman movie, is excited at the prospect of Joss Whedon joining the DCEU and believes he's well suited to helm a film about Batgirl.
When asked by Toronto Sun about the recent report that Whedon is in talks to write, direct and produce a standalone Batgirl movie, Jenkins said she's not sure if a deal has yet to made, "but if it is done, then I'm excited about it."
She then reiterated her enthusiasm and explained why she thinks the Firefly and Marvel's The Avengers director is an excellent choice to direct a film about Batgirl. "The tone of Joss' work is great for female superheroes," she said. "He takes such a fun approach and I think he'll have fun in the DC universe, which will be excited to have him."
While details on the film are scarce, Batgirl will reportedly feature additional characters from Gotham as well.
It won't be long before the DCEU gets its first female-led superhero movie, as Jenkins' Wonder Woman movie opens in theaters on June 2.
