What to Do First in Dead Rising 4

This page contains suggestions for things to do first in Dead Rising 4.

While it may be fun to simply start bandying about slaying zombies all willy-nilly, here are some tips that will pay off both immediately and further down the road.

When leveling up early on, focus the majority of your skill points on the Fortitude skill tree - specifically in the veins of Health and Stamina.

An increase in health is good for obvious reasons, but your Stamina bar is equally (if not more) important, as running past the larger hordes will make survival much easier.

Utilizing Frank's skill as a photojournalist is one of the easiest ways to help yourself level up early on.

Before killing (or running from) large groups of zombies roaming around, be sure to get a good vantage point and get the most zombies within the frame. You can earn an easy 8 to 10 thousand PP just from a single picture. Catching any special moment (like an explosion or character death) within the frame as well will earn you even more PP.

Like with photos, rescuing or helping friendly survivors is a great way to earn extra PP - especially since you can farm their locations by traveling far enough away from the area, then returning to rescue them again.

Rescuing survivors also increases the level of your Safe House in each area, which allows you to purchase better items, maps and outfits.

Especially early on (when you don’t have an extensive amount of combo blueprints), be sure to make a note of what types of stores are in which area. For example, if you find a blueprint for the Laser Sword, make sure you know where you can easily find gems if that’s the best weapon you can craft.

Take the time to stray a little bit off your path to objectives and pick up Blueprints along the way. Doing so will allow you to craft stronger weapons for later in the game.

Some Blueprints are found in lockers, so pick up the any keys you find to come back and open them up for more combination weapons. They are well worth your time.

In addition to searching stores for useful items, you can also find your way into multiple Safe Rooms that shopkeepers have installed in the event of a zombie outbreak. Most of them contain a large amount of scrap or a blueprint, and often will have a weapon rack with some high-powered gear.

Some of these rooms are marked by a ZDC symbol on the floor of the shop, or can be hidden behind a bookcase or faux wall panel. Be sure to use the Spectrum Analyzer filter on your camera to search for any hidden doors, and keep your eyes peeled for the access keycards that will let you into these rooms. When you find a keycard, keep you eyes out for a blue circle that appears on your map in the approximate location of the safe room.

When running around the mall, be sure to try on every article of clothing you come across - they’re all stored in your wardrobe (the “Change Clothes” menu) after you try them on for the first time.

While you may not be able to craft everything right at the onset of the game, you’ll find a decent amount of powerful Combo Weapons discarded around the mall.

You can find Flaming Swords, Electric Axes, Acid Rain launchers and more scattered all over the mall, especially inside refuges and panic rooms.
