The Walking Dead Star Responds to Exit Rumors

What does the future hold for Carl?

The Walking Dead fans have been concerned in recent weeks that Chandler Riggs, who stars as Carl, would potentially be exiting the series because he's been accepted into college. In a new interview, Riggs finally addressed the rumors on how it will affect his continued involvement on The Walking Dead.

Warning: Potential spoilers for The Walking Dead follow.

When asked how his acceptance to Auburn may impact his future with The Walking Dead, Riggs told The Hollywood Reporter he hopes he can continue to be involved with the show, while also experiencing normal life as a college student.

"You never know how it will go. I really do hope it works out because that would be really cool," he said. "I like to be in The Walking Dead and I like to play video games and just hang out with my friends and try to be as normal as possible, so going to college would be another really cool, normal experience in my life."

When asked whether or not he'd be able to juggle being both a full-time student and series regular, Riggs said he could "theoretically" make it work by taking a couple classes on campus and another online, just as long as his professors are willing to comply. "It wouldn't be easy but I think that could be possible," he added, affirming he's currently trying to make it work.

As far as The Walking Dead's next season is concerned, Riggs couldn't comment on whether or not he has a contract lined up for Season 8. Meanwhile, one of the series' other stars has confirmed he'll be making a return.
