November Saw PS4 Regain Its Spot at the Top of Console Sales

"Grandpa, what did you do in the console wars?"

The PlayStation 4 was the top selling console for November, taking back the spot from its rival console, the Xbox One.

Sony confirmed to us the PS4 was the best seller in the US, but had no formal statement on the matter.

Up until November, Xbox One was the top selling console in the US for four straight months, something the company credited to the launch of its revised Xbox One S console.

November saw the release of Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, the upgraded version of the base PS4 hardware. November was also loaded with Black Friday sales, which no doubt helped move units, especially discounted, older PS4 SKUs.

Worldwide since release, PlayStation 4 has sold 50 million consoles since release. With a few rare exceptions, the console dominated the sales figures month after month, until Xbox One broke the streak beginning in July. While the Xbox One beat PS4 that month, both consoles came in behind Nintendo's 3DS.

In a statement from Microsoft, it said it plans to extend its "$50 off offer on all Xbox One S consoles" beginning December 11 at  "participating U.S. retailers."
