This page shows you how to find and catch Mimikyu in Pokemon Sun and Moon, a Ghost and Fairy type Pokemon that is new to the Alola region. Mimikyu is one of the harder to find Pokemon in Sun and Moon, so follow our tips to better your chances of adding it to your Pokedex!
After you complete the trial in the Thrifty Megamart on Ula'ula Island, return to the area by going through Route 14 and heading inside the Thrifty Megamart. Now that trial is over, you'll be able to encounter a Golbat, Haunter, Klefki, or yes, our beloved Mimikyu, in the wild.
Mimikyu has a 5% encounter rate and 45 catch rate. This means it won't be often that you see Mimikyu appear, and when you do, you'll need to make the most out of the situation. You don't have to pull out the Ultra Balls just yet, but it will take several tries with the lesser Great Ball or standard Poke Ball.
Since Mimikyu is a Ghost type, Normal attacks do not phase the Pokemon. This means that moves like False Swipe, the move that allows you to attack but never inflict damage past 1HP, will not work. Use a Pokemon closer in level with Mimikyu to avoid dealing too much damage in one attack, or simply use weaker attacks overall. Your goal is to leave Mimikyu with as little HP as possible, aiming to get its health bar in the red zone before trying to capture it.
Inflicting status conditions like Paralysis and Asleep are always helpful, but avoid using Poison or you run the risk of taking out Mimiky completely.
Once you've got Mimikyu caught inside a Poke Ball, the Pokemon is yours!
