Former BioWare, Riot Devs Unveil New Co-op Action RPG

Releasing for PC in 2017.

Dauntless, a new online role-playing game from independent developer Phoenix Labs, was revealed tonight at The Game Awards 2016.

This free-to-play co-op action RPG is slated to release for PC sometime in 2017. Dauntless is set in a "science-fantasy world" that was broken into an array of floating islands. As elite warriors called Slayers, players are tasked with protecting humanity by hunting down Behemoths that threaten the land.

Dauntless is being developed by Phoenix Labs, a team of developers comprised of industry veterans from studios that include BioWare, Riot Games, Capcom and Blizzard.

According to studio co-founder and president Jesse Houston, Dauntless draws "inspiration from games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter and World of Warcraft," where players can either work together with friends or tackle the game solo.

In addition, Dauntless will feature a "deep and robust crafting system," giving players the ability to upgrade their armor and weapons while they seek to protect the world from the Behemoth threat.

Stay tuned to IGN for more on Dauntless, as we near the game's release next year.
