DICE Confirms Star Wars Battlefront 2 Will Have a Campaign

Pain begets 'paign.

Following the much-criticised omission of a single-player campaign in Star Wars Battlefront, DICE has confirmed that it is creating one for a sequel next year.

While the move had been teased by EA Studios boss, Patrick Söderlund previously, this is the first time it's been discussed in an explicit, official sense.

Speaking to Eurogamer, DICE producer Paul Keslin said: "Myself as a Star Wars fan, I want story, I want narrative, I want something I can play that immerses me in that world but gives me something to follow and chase."

Eurogamer goes on to say that the campaign has been "locked in", and that DICE has been learning on the job with its approach to Battlefront's Rogue One and Death Star DLC.

It was confirmed at E3 this year that Jade Raymond's Motive Studios - which is already helping to create Visceral's Star Wars action-adventure - would be assisting DICE with Battlefront 2. Keslin also confirms that Motive's specific role is to work on the campaign.

Discussing how DICE switched focus to fold its successful multiplayer features into Battlefield 1's more popular campaign, Keslin explained:

"That's a lot of what we've talked about in terms of DICE's identity and how we approach games. We're partnering up with some folks from Motive - they have their own take on how things are - but we have a very close relationship with them, and we want everything to feel like a coherent experience.

"We don't want it where single player isn't that great but multiplayer has this great thing and isn't connected."

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is due for release next year, and is the cause for EA taking "a couple of years off" from the Battlefield series. EA's Blake Jorgensen has said that the new game will be drawing more heavily on the latest Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens, Episode VIII, and Rogue One.
