Wrestling Wrap Up: Is Shane the Right WrestleMania Opponent for Styles?

Plus, Roman Reigns vows to retire Undertaker, Seth Rollins launches a surprise attack, Bray gets a fateful of Sister Abigail, and more.

There was a lot of drama with the GMs and Commissioners this week as we get closer and closer to Ultimate Face Punching Extravaganza 33. A lot of violence against one's superiors as both Mick Foley and AJ Styles both "I can't standsk no more'd" their respective brand bosses, the latter event resulting with Shane getting his head rammed through a freakin' car window. And not even a respectable car window. One of those smaller crappy rear passenger windows that kids cover with boogers and Go-Gurt.

You might be thinking "Well, that was a lot of work, placing that piece of breakaway glass into that car." But Shane got MESSED up. Shane don't roll like that. No stunt windows for Vest McSilverFox. We were all there, live on the scene, as the blood began to pour out of his head, mussing up his mane. Shortly after, his eye began to puff out. Dude got trampled here.

Given AJ's persona, this did feel like a bit of unnecessary escalation. Yeah, he turned "Beat Up John Cena" into a catchphrase, but he's never done anything this vicious in the WWE. Or for most of his career either. This felt like a Randy Orton attack. Or a Kevin Owens one. But I guess they needed to (finally) stop dragging their heels with this AJ/Shane match. Shane needed to be beaten so badly that he'd immediately demand a one-on-one fight.

Shane announced this right at the end of SmackDown, though those 30 seconds actually ran over and a lot of people missed it. Some even thought they needed to switch over to the WWE Network to see Shane's promo. Others just assumed the younger McMaMahon had morphed into Todd Chrisley and that ChrisleyMania was running wild. By the way, Chase still doesn't have a 'Mania match either. And neither does Braun. Hmmm....

So how do we feel about AJ vs. Shane? I think it'll be a good match. I mean, it kind of has to be. Both of these guys are wiling to go all out for whatever sort of bats*** bout this is going to be, but I can't help but wonder why this pairing was made in the first place. This AJ and Shane match has been rumored for a long time. Back when 'Mania was first coming together, AJ and Shane were coupled up. Obviously, Vince saw something there that we're not exactly seeing since our inclination would be, I assume, to pit AJ against a top-level wrestler for a possible five-star wrestling match.

Shane matches can be entertaining as hell but they ain't clinics. And they also usually  involve Shane falling into a vat of acid or being hurled through a hurricane or some other death-defying act that only gets worse with replays. Basically, Shane has one mode - that of a zippered jacket in an oversized laundromat dryer. And AJ will have to adjust and modify his style to work with that. Which he can, for sure, but it's just weird that they wouldn't want Styles to showcase his absolute best at UFPE 33.

Over on RAW, we all got switchback'd when Mick Foley DIDN'T FIRE HIMSELF when pressed to fire someone from RAW. Nope, instead he "fired" Steph who then responded with TIME TO PLAY THE GAME, to which Foley retorted with a Mr. Socko Claw, that I guess he just always has handy down there in his boiler room brawl...

RAW's end segment was pretty good actually. Triple H, thanks to Foley, was able to get over as a heel while the slow and steady work they've been doing with Rollins, to help turn him into a more believable babyface, is paying off. It was a legit cool moment when he dropped the crutch to the side and then ran into the ring to attack Hunter. For a second, it seemed like we'd gotten big time worked by big time workers, because he seemed to not be having too much trouble with the ol' knee. But then Hunter attacked the knee, which seemed to indicate an official "taking out" of Rollins when it comes to the 'Mania match picture.

I thought for a split sec that Balor might come out to help Seth, setting up Triple H vs Balor at Mania. Yes, I know that Finn won't probably return until the RAW after 'Mania, but I'm still looking for how this whole Seth/Triple H angle will present itself. Will Seth "Stone Cold" stalk Hunter the entire show? Will it just be one in-ring segment? Will there be some semblance of a match?

More from RAW... Do we know exactly why Dana turned on Charlotte this close to 'Mania? Are they putting Dana in the RAW women's match? Are they making it a five gal affair because SmackDown's match has five ladies? Are they that OCD that they need to be balanced? I don't like the overstuffing of the turkey here. Things are getting claustrophobic af. I did notice though that Sasha's backstage words to Bayley are getting more heel-y. She's almost ready to turn. Not yet though. Don't flip the burger yet. Let it simmer and soak a bit more.
