As Marvel has been teasing, this issue features the long-awaited showdown between Spider-Man and Norman Osborn, the latter of whom has been in hiding ever since he was defeated at the end of Superior Spider-Man. Acting on intel given by The Kingpin, Spidey and Mockingbird attacked a South American arms dealer named El Facoquero, a man they thought was really Osborn in disguise.

Instead, it turns out that the real Osborn was half a world away and using the real El Facoquero as a decoy. Osborn now has the resources to alter his face repeatedly, assuming new identities and sneaking his way back into Peter Parker's life without his enemy ever realizing.

Osborn was only the beginning when it came to returning characters in this issue. In the climax of the story, Osborn only narrowly escaped assassination at the hands of a mysterious, cloaked assassin. That assassin turned out to be none other than Silver Sable, who seemingly died during the "Ends of the Earth" storyline in 2012.

But even that wasn't the biggest twist in this issue. One of the backup stories revealed the fate of Otto Octavius in the aftermath of The Clone Conspiracy. It seems the former Doctor Octopus has cheated death yet again. Unlike most of the Jackal's imperfect New U clones, Otto managed to survive the breakdown of his clone body in The Clone Conspiracy #5. His mind now inhabits the Jackal's "proto-clone," a body that's basically the perfect fusion of Peter Parker and Otto Octavius' DNA.

However, this story made it clear that Otto isn't interested in reclaiming his title as "The Superior Spider-Man." Instead, he's formed an alliance with Arnim Zola's Hydra faction and dubbed himself "The Superior Octopus." The story teases that Spidey will be battling his old foe once more when the series ties into the Secret Empire crossover this summer.
