Thor Has a New Look in Ragnarok

Came, Thor, Conquered.

A new reveal for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok shows that Thor has changed for his third solo outing - at least his haircut has, anyway.

Revealed by the new Entertainment Weekly cover, alongside Thor's shorn locks, we also get our first look at Cate Blanchett as antagonist, Hela, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie:

Possible plot spoilers follow - turn away if you want to go in completely fresh:

Alongside that, it's a fresh look at Thor's new costume - seemingly a little more gladiatorial, which would tie in well with the film's Planet Hulk-inspired story - plus the dual blades he'll apparently be rocking while he doesn't have access to Mjolnir.

EW also offers up a little more detail on Ragnarok's set-up. Hela is apparently released from imprisonment by mistake, and it's the Goddess of Death who will send Thor to Planet Hulk setting Sakaar, seeing him face him off against its most popular fighter, The Hulk.

“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” said lead actor, Chris Hemsworth. “No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”

Director Taika Waititi also addressed the film's more comic tone: “I think sometimes people mistake a tonal shift as ‘We’re just going to make some ridiculous broad comedy where no one gives a s**t what happens and everyone gets stoned and sits around talking about saving the universe. We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it’s like a slight shift. I don’t feel nervous — I feel good about it.”

There's two little details we still want to know - how big a role will Doctor Strange play, and how much will we see of Darryl?

Thor: Ragnarok will be released on October 26 in Australia, October 27 in the UK  and November 3 in the US.
