The Final BoxBoy! Game Is Coming West

New name, same kind of game.

Bye-Bye BoxBoy! is going to be launching on the Nintendo eShop for 3DS in Europe on March 23 for £4.49 / €5. So far, no US date or price has been announced, but you can assume it's coming.

Main character Qbby is returning for "one last adventure" in the game series developed by HAL Laboratory, creators of the Kirby series. The games are 2D side-scrolling puzzle-platformers, where Qbby gets round obstacles by creating boxes out of thin air.

Not only is Bye-Bye BoxBoy! Qbby's last adventure, it's also his biggest. There are over 180 levels spanning four planets, and there are also five unlockable Challenge Worlds which impose restrictions on the normal game mechanics.

On each planet in the main game, Qbby will encounter a Qbaby, and if you guide them to safety Qbby will gain extra box types to create.

The game released in Japan on February 2 under the name Goodbye! BoxBoy! A BoxBoy amiibo was also released there, but unfortunately it won't be making the trip west with the game.

Bye-Bye BoxBoy! will have some measure of amiibo support though, as you can use amiibo from the Kirby Collection to change Qbby's appearance. You can also transfer save data from the original BoxBoy! game to gain an additional 10 costumes, and from BoxBoxBoy! for another eight.

If you want to give BoxBoy! a go, there's a free demo available on the eShop with a selection of levels from all three games.

We've enjoyed the series so far, calling the first game "one of the cleverest puzzle platformers I’ve ever played", and its sequel, BoxBoxBoy!, "a great example of how to do a lot with only a little"
