Terminator Reboot: Word Coming This Year, Despite Rumors

The reboot will go in the direction "fans really wanted since T2."

Paramount will reportedly announce a Terminator reboot this year.

The Guardian reports that, despite recent rumors that the series had been shelved, there are already plans for a new entry.

“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and, believe me, it’s an incredibly bright future,” said David Ellison, the CEO of Skydance Media, producer of the series. "I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.

“We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head.”

Yesterday, the New York Daily News reported that sources had said Paramount would not be picking up a new entry, despite Terminator: Genisys' box office success.

Earlier this year it was reported James Cameron will regain the rights to Terminator and wanted Deadpool director Tim Miller to helm the reboot. It's not known whether this project is still in the cards, or if that project has been scrapped in favour of a new one.

There are no details regarding whether Arnold Shwarzenegger will be a part of the new reboot, but Emilia Clarke did confirm she won't be playing Sarah Connor in another Terminator movie.
