Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update to Air as a Separate Series This Summer


Weekend Update will air during SNL's four-week summer hiatus.

Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update is getting its own four-episode spinoff show.

NBC announced today it has greenlit a half-hour primetime version of Weekend Update that will air during SNL's four-week summer hiatus starting on August 10 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The show will feature current Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, with SNL cast members making cameo appearances as well.

SNL has seen ratings resurgence in recent years, with the long-running show enjoying its best ratings in 24 years.

"SNL is having its best season in a quarter of a century — how many shows can say that?! —  so we didn’t want them to take the summer off," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, in a statement accompanying the announcement.
