No Man's Sky Major Path Finder Update Out Today

PS4 Pro support, weapon and vehicle specializations have also been added.

No Man's Sky's Path Finder update is coming to Hello Games' game today for PlayStation 4 and PC, introducing on-planet vehicles, a permadeath mode, PS4 Pro support, and much more.

The free update has been detailed on No Man's Sky's official website, including the addition of new vehicles called Exocraft, and what the introduction of these allow. The land-based vehicles include  the Nomad, a small hovercraft, the mid-range Roamer, and the cargo-carrying Colossus. Exocraft can be acquired via a new set of missions after a Vy'keen technician is hired at a player's planetary base, and players can now create time trials on planets for others to beat with their Exocraft.

On the note of bases, players can now share their bases online so others can explore their outposts. The Steam Workshop has been integrated into the PC version of the game so that bases can now be uploaded to the Workshop. 40 new base-building parts have been introduced to the game, as well as new material aesthetics, decals, and furniture finishes.

Players can now own multiple ships, for which there are now new specializations — Shuttle, Fighter, Hauler, and Science — and class ratings (A, B, C, and S). Multi-tool specialization and classes have also been added. The class system works similarly to the ship ratings, while the specializations include pistol, rifle, experimental, and alien options. Three new weapons can also be installed into multi-tools — Scatter Blaster, Pulse Spitter, and the Blaze Javelin — while the Cyclotron Ballista, Positron Ejector, or Infra-Knife Accelerator can be added to ships.

Permadeath has also been added, mirroring the game's Survival mode, the difficulty of which has been increased. Players in this mode who die in space will restart their games on the closest planet away from their downed ship.

A dedicated photo mode has also been added, allowing players to pause the action, change lighting and time-of-day conditions while viewing their ship in third person. Cloud layers and fog density can also be adjusted.

New traders have also been introduced to space stations and basses in addition to a new currency called Nanite Clusters.

The game has also received a number of visual upgrades, from higher resolution textures, to more accurate ambient lighting, and HDR mode for compatible monitors and TVs. PlayStation 4 Pro support has also been added.

For the full patch notes, head to Hello Games' official websiteWhen No Man's Sky initially debuted, our review said that "the promise of limitless exploration ended up working against it when I lost faith that it had any more meaningful things to show me no matter how far I traveled."

Hello Games recently announced the Hello Labs funding initiative, providing support for developers making experimental games.
