J.K. Rowling's two-part stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child earned 11 nominations for the Olivier Awards, making it the most nominated new play in British theater history.
As reported by Deadline, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is now tied with the recent West End production of Hairspray, which set the record in 2008.
The Olivier Awards are British theater's most prestigious accolade. The play received nominations for Best New Play and Best Director, as well as Best Actor, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and several others.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues the Potter story and serves as a follow-up to Rowling's seven-novel series. The narrative picks up nineteen years after the conclusion of The Deathly Hallows and centers around Harry and his son Albus.
Back in December, the play's producers were in the "final stages" of negotiations to bring the show to Broadway in 2018. The Cursed Child's script is now available in book form, and a trademark filed by Warner Bros. last July suggests a film adaptation may be on the way.
