Will Ferrell to Star in eSports Movie

Anchorman star Will Ferrell is making a movie about eSports.

Deadline reports Ferrell has signed on to star in the comedy film. His company Gary Sanchez Productions will produce the eSports flick with Legendary Pictures, which is behind other gaming-related content like the Warcraft film.

The movie will see Ferrell on an eSports team, which presents a preposterous — and funny — situation considering most people retire from professional gaming in their late 20s. SpongeBob SquarePants 3 scribes Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn are writing the screenplay.

In addition to Ferrell, standout eSports teams Evil Geniuses and Fnatic are in talks about joining the comedy film.

Universal will handle distribution of the movie.
