The 5 Most Annoying Heroes in Dota 2

Dota players: try to read this list without getting angry.

Because Dota’s meta is always shifting, the most powerful and overplayed heroes can change on any given patch. Not that long ago, Sniper was ruining our fun with ease in every game.

However, some heroes are, by design, always annoying to deal with. Most of them are rare in pro games, so if you’re checking out Dota for the first time during the upcoming Boston Major, you might not even know they exist.

You deserve to be grumpy like the rest of us, so without further ado, these are the five most annoying heroes in Dota 2.

#5 Phantom Lancer

Phantom Lancer is one of those heroes you have to beat before the game even starts. If you don’t pick a hero who can deal with him, he and his imaginary friends will eventually steamroll you, your base, and everything you cherish.

Phantom Lancer can make tons of copies of himself, and some of them are as difficult to kill as the main hero. Even the weaker illusions become threats. You can buy items that give you AoE damage to hit all the copies at once, but they’re just not great options on most heroes.

#4 Omniknight
omni

Omniknight is basically a gigantic walking sign that says “No!”

When you try to kill enemy heroes, Omniknight can heal them and make them immune to your magic. When you get close to Omniknight himself, he slows your movement and your attack speed. His ultimate makes his entire team immune to physical damage, which is the most common, most reliable, and best-scaling source of damage in the whole game. He is a master at ruining your plans.

viper

Viper combines two of the most frustrating mechanics in all of video games: slows and damage over time. In fact, three of his four skills are dedicated to making you die very, very slowly.

His fourth skill gives him bonus damage, meaning he’s very strong early in lane and almost never has a bad start. He also looks gross and sounds like he’s gargling oil.

#2 Techies
techies

Squee, Spleen, and Spoon, collectively known as “Techies,” can kill any hero in the game with remote mines. Even worse, Techies can self destruct and take you out in a humiliating explosion.

In the absolute worst cases, Techies can turtle up and turn their own base into a literal minefield, making it incredibly difficult for the attacking team to finish the game. When you see a Techies player, try to end the game as quickly as possible or suffer the worst of fates.

slark

Slark is, quite literally, the worst. He jumps onto you from out of nowhere, stabs you with a shiv, then disappears just as quickly. If you think you have him cornered, he’ll just escape and heal up in a few seconds.

Here’s a list of things he gets for free: tons of movement speed, a purge that doubles as an AoE damage spell, an escape ability, a spell that makes him immune to detection, and health regeneration on par with one of the most expensive items in the game. Fighting him is no fun, and we’ll gladly welcome any Slark nerfs in patch 6.89 and beyond.

If you don’t regularly play these heroes, congratulations on making the Dota community a better place! If you do, keep it to yourself or we probably can’t be friends.
