Sea of Thieves Announces Alpha Playtest

Limited to around 1000 players.

Sea of Thieves will be getting a technical alpha playtest starting on December 16 for selected players from the game's Insider Programme.

The first technical alpha will help "make meaningful changes" to Sea of Thieves through Insider feedback, testing, and data insights, according to developer Rare. No word was given as to what will be available in the playtest as its contents are subject to the NDA all Insiders must agree to when signing up for the Insider Programme.

"At its heart, our upcoming shared world pirate game Sea of Thieves is all about you, your friends and the high seas adventures you’ll be embarking upon together," said executive producer Joe Neate. "With this in mind, our ongoing approach to game design is to craft a wealth of features and systems suited to all manner of player motivations."

The first play session, which will be limited to around 1000 players, will take place during several timeslots throughout the weekend of December 16 and will end on December 18.

Last month, Rare announced the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme with the promise that selected members can play the game early. If you're interested in becoming an Insider, you can sign up at Sea of Thieves' official website.
