Oscars: Jimmy Kimmel to Host 2017 Academy Awards

From the Emmys to the Oscars.

Following his hosting stint at this year's 68th Primetime Emmys, Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the 2017 Academy Awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel's selection will soon be announced by the show's producers, Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd. Though, Kimmel already confirmed the news on Twitter.

For Kimmel, this will be the first time hosting the Oscars after headlining the Primetime Emmys twice, in 2016 and 2012.

ABC, which is home to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, recently struck a new deal to broadcast the Oscars until 2028, affording the network more creative input on the show, like picking a host, The Hollywood Reporter explained. The Academy still has the final say, according to THR.

Despite Kimmel receiving mostly positive reviews for hosting the Emmys, the show was only able to draw in 11.3 million viewers, an all-time low for the telecast.

Kimmel will have to follow Chris Rock, who hosted the 2016 Oscars amid the controversy surrounding the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Steven Spielberg, for one, expressed his issues with the way the Academy responded to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

The 89th Academy Awards will air February 26, 2017 on ABC.
