Jason Rubin, the co-founder of Naughty Dog and current head of content at Oculus, sees no limit to the potential for VR, going so far as to suggest it could very well be the final form of computing technology.
"If you believe in VR, you believe it's the last computing platform," Rubin said on the latest episode of our monthly interview show IGN Unfiltered.
"There have been various computing platforms that have come over time, and all of them have opened up opportunities that the previous computing platform has not," Ruben explained, citing GPS-equipped mobile devices as one such example.
"The thing about VR is, if VR really works, it is a virtual reality, so any further computing medium that we can imagine you can simulate in VR," he added.
Ruben was clear to note that he's not suggesting we're nearing the point at which VR becomes the holodeck (or if it's even a possibility), but one can't overlook the incredible potential the platform offers. "We can simulate anything, and because of that, it's unbounded in opportunity. Completely and utterly unbounded in opportunity," he said.
