New Toys Allegedly Violating Privacy of Children

You'd better watch out.

Nuance Communications is allegedly violating the privacy of children who own toys containing the company's speech recognition software.

According to The Boston Globe, consumer watchdogs have found Nuance is saving recordings from the My Friend Cayla and i-Que Intelligent Robot toys for later use, without warning parents.

The toys connect to a phone app via Bluetooth, which then relays information spoken by the child to Nuance. The toys can be asked questions, and they will answer using data from the Internet if possible. The toy manufacturer, Genesis Toys, is allegedly gathering these questions in order to improve its other products.

The consumer watchdogs are also saying both toys are vulnerable to hacking due to inadequate safety features. A hacker could eavesdrop on the child's conversation, or even speak back to the child.

This news has come out just too late for these products to make the list of the worst 10 toys of 2016. If you're looking for something a little better, check out these 9 awesome toys we want for Christmas.
