How To Get Wimpod and Golisopod in Pokemon Sun and Moon

This page shows you how to catch and find Wimpod and Golisopod in Pokemon Sun and Moon, a Bug and Water type Pokemon that is new to the Alola region. Golisopod is one of the harder to find Pokemon in Sun and Moon, so follow our tips to better your chances of adding it to your Pokedex!

Golisopod is the second evolution of Wimpod and is also not able to be caught outright in the game. You can however catch Wimpod and evolve the Pokemon into Golisopod once it reaches Level 30.

Wimpod can be found on the sandy beaches of Route 8, Poni Breaker Coast, and Poni Wilds.

Unlike other Pokemon, Wimpod is not encountered in wild battles. Instead, Wimpod appears in the world itself and you'll need to run into it in order to battle. Wimpod will scurry off to its hole when it sees you.

There are two ways you can about running into Wimpod. Find a way to block the hole and the Wimpod will have no choice but to continue scurry about or head straight for you in an attempt to get back inside. You can also run into it by hopping on your Taurus and charging full speed into it.

Wimpod does not have an encounter rate, but it does have a 90 catch rate. It's a decent catch rate, but that's not what makes catching Wimpod difficult. If its health goes below half, Wimpod will use its Wimp Out ability to immediately flee the battle. This makes moves like False Swipe not viable.

The easiest way to catch Wimpod is to throw a Quick Ball at the start of the battle. You might not get it on the first try, but Wimpod's catch rate doesn't make it too difficult. If you're fighting it instead, try inflicting status conditions like Paralysis and Sleep to increase your chances. Do keep in mind that moves like Mean Look do not work on Wimpod.

So Wimpod decided to take off. Now what? Exit the area and return back for a chance to see Wimpod back in its original position. If it's not there, try again and you'll eventually see it again. If you defeated the Wimpod in your previous battle, another Wimpod will not reappear and it's likely you'll have to wait another day for it to show up.

Once you've got Wimpod caught inside a Poke Ball, the Pokemon is yours! Level it up to Level 30 to get it to evolve into Golisopod!
