The Coalition has announced plans to test cross-play for Gears of War 4 competitive multiplayer this weekend.
Starting this Friday, December 2, Xbox One players will be able to face off against those on Windows 10, the studio announced on the game's official forums. The trial, which is being conducted to explore the possibility of a permanent cross-platform option for Versus play outside of Private Matches, will conclude on Monday, December 5.
According to The Coalition, the goal of this test is to gauge player feedback from both Xbox One and PC users, as the studio decides how to move forward in delivering cross-platform play.
"What comes next after this hasn’t been decided—this weekend is an incredibly important first step in this process," the studio explained. "Once we use the combination of our data and your feedback together, we’ll be able to make an informed next step (or not as the case may be)."
The trial will feature Team Deathmatch, Dodgeball and King of the Hill modes in a Social-style playlist. All of the game's multiplayer maps, including Drydock and Checkout, will be available, with a maximum squad size of five. As a bonus for those who participate, win and loss XP will be increased to 1500 and 750, respectively.
