Doom Free Update Brings Bots, New Multiplayer Mode

Celebrate the new update with a double XP weekend.

Doom's next free update is out today and brings bots, a new multiplayer mode, and extends the level cap, Bethesda has announced.

Multiplayer bots, a feature many players have been requesting since Doom's beta, will be available in both Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch modes, according to Bethesda.

Free Update 5 will also include Infernal Run, a new competitive multiplayer mode where "teams fight for control of the (eye) ball, which must be carried or thrown into the opponent’s goal to score." You can check out the mode in action in the video below.

In addition, the level cap has been extended to Echelon 11 and players who reach the new cap will be rewarded with Doom Marine Armor. Lazarus Lab–themed modules, new props, and other features have also been added to SnapMap. A full list of all of the features added can be found here.

To celebrate the release of the free update, Doom will be having a double XP weekend starting today and ending on December 12 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT.

Doom's last big free update was released in October and brought Arcade Mode. For more on the FPS, be sure to check out IGN's Doom review.
