3 Possibilities for Pokemon Go's Next Update

Which new Pokemon are we going to be able to catch soon?

After a leak from Starbucks of all places, developer Niantic has confirmed that new Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go soon. It will reveal details on December 12, so in the meantime… what could Niantic mean by “more Pokemon"?

We know that Sprint has formed a partnership with Niantic, which will add thousands of new gyms across the world, and for the uninitiated, Pokemon Go’s roster currently consists of 146 of the original 151 Pokemon. What comes next depends on how big the update is.

Option 1: The Gen 1 Legendaries (and a Raid)

The three legendary birds — Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres — as well as Mewtwo and Mew are currently unavailable in Pokemon Go. Adding them would complete the Gen 1 Pokedex, but it’s unlikely they’d be added without any fanfare. If these ultra-rare Pokemon were to make their way to Go, they’d probably come with a raid like the one we saw in the Pokemon Go announcement trailer, a feature many players have been waiting to hear more about since the beginning.

Option 2: The Gen 2 Pokedex

The Johto Dex adds 100 new Pokemon, quite a few of which are directly related to (by evolution or by breeding) the Kanto Pokemon already in Go. The update could possibly bring some or all of these Gen 2 Pokemon into the fray, which would be a great way to keep players who are close to completing their Pokedexes busy once again.

Option 3: Alola Form Pokemon

With the launch of Sun and Moon, there are now alternate forms for some of our favorite Gen 1 Pokemon — which, as luck would have it, are already in Go! That said, this is the least likely option given the fact that these forms are supposed to be island-exclusive, and it’s not like Niantic will make all of them Hawaii-only finds.

So what do you think Niantic has in store for us with the Pokemon Go update? Let us know in the comments!
