According to a post on the Mojang blog, Minecraft fans can expect a new type of entry in the series in the form of a novel penned by post-apocalyptic aficionado Max Brooks.
Best known as the author behind The Zombie Survival Guide, and later, the incredibly popular World War Z, Brooks will be the first author to tackle Minecraft in novel form. According to Mojang brand director Lydia Winters, Brooks was a solid choice to helm the first entry in a potential series of books.

"From our first meeting with Max, we knew he would be a perfect fit for our first foray into novels based on Minecraft," said Winters. "His enthusiasm and understanding of all things related to the game bring out the sense of wonder and possibility that so many players love about Minecraft--ourselves included."
The novel, titled Minecraft: The Island, apparently centers around "a hero stranded in an unfamiliar land, with unfamiliar rules, learning to survive against tremendous odds." So, basically the premise of every Minecraft game in Survival Mode. For his part, Brooks seems enthusiastic to finally put his own obsession with Minecraft to work.
"I’m very excited to be part of this new venture," said Brooks. "Finally, I can justify all those hours I’ve spent playing Minecraft."
