Superior: Millar Wants John Cena to Star

"His comic-timing is just impeccable."

Development on a film adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series Superior is well underway, and according to the esteemed writer, John Cena would be the perfect fit for the lead role.

After seeing the WWE Superstar's performance in Trainwreck, Millar told ComicBook.com that because Superior is "a fun story," with "the conceit being Big meets Superman," the film's lead "needs to be someone who can pull off the comedy," and Cena would be perfect for that role.

"It needed to be an actor who didn’t take himself too seriously and could do the funny moments as well as the poignant ones," he added, going on to say that in Trainwreck, Cena is "with four top-of-their-game comedians and he stole the entire movie. He was so, so funny. His comic-timing is just impeccable and he looks very thoughtful too."

Superior tells the story of a young boy living with multiple sclerosis who, after being granted a wish, is transformed into his favorite action hero and uses his powers to help the world.

As such, Millar noted that Cena's physical look is only a small reason why he wants him for the part, saying, "It’s the heart of the character he seems to embody very well and I love the fact that he’s done more Make A Wish hospital visits than any other actor or athlete in America."

Millar confirmed that he and Cena are in touch, and that Cena is now at the top of his personal list when it comes to providing his suggestions. He also noted that the script is "really, really funny" and nearing completion, and that a (so far unnamed) director who's "great at comedy" and "great at poignant drama" is now attached to helm.
