It looks like Johnny Depp may soon join the upcoming film adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, as the actor is reportedly in talks to star alongside director Kenneth Branagh.
According to Deadline, Depp is currently in negotiations with Fox for a role that has yet to be revealed. After recently appearing in a handful of box office flops, Depp was tagged last year as Hollywood's most overpaid actor. Earlier this month, Depp joined the cast of the thriller Labyrinth, where he'll star as Detective Russell Poole, the man who investigated the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.
Angelina Jolie was originally going to star in the film as well, but has since left the project. Blade Runner 2 writer Michael Green penned the film's script, which is being adapted from the classic 1934 Agatha Christie novel of the same name. In addition to directing the remake, Branagh will star as Detective Hercule Poirot.
Murder on the Orient Express centers around Detective Poirot who seeks to discover the mystery behind the murder of an American businessman aboard the Orient Express. Branagh is producing alongside Simon Kinberg, Ridley Scott, and Mark Gordon. Christie's great grandson James Prichard and Agatha Christie Ltd. CEO Hilary Strong are on board as executive producers.
