Gears of War 4 hits stores on October 11 and continues the epic saga of humanity's fight for survival against overwhelming odds. Before we find out what's in store for JD Fenix and his friends however, we thought it might be fun to celebrate some of the most memorable moments from the series so far. And not just that - we want you guys to vote to decide the top 5. Simply choose at least three of your favourite moments on the voting form at the bottom of the page, and we'll tally the votes and cut together a video announcing the top 5.
Need to refresh your memory? Footage of every single nominee is embedded below, so you can relive some of the coolest moments before voting.
Oh, and did I mention that everyone who is illegible to vote goes in the running to win one of 19 prizes? The grand prize winner will receive an Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Limited Edition Bundle. Three runners-up will each receive a copy of Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition. And then 15 additional runners-up will each nab a copy of Gears of War 4. Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 and over.
Enough talk. Here are the nominees...
After a whole lot of running and gunning, Delta Squad encounters a blind but deadly Berserker that forces players to slow things down in a tense race against the clock.
Another fantastic gameplay modifier, as Baird’s warnings about the lights going down have a brutal pay-off with the appearance of the Pitch Black-like Kryll enemy that shreds every organic thing that strays from the light.
The final boss fight in the original Gears is a walk in the park on lower difficulties. Crank it up to Insane, though, and defeating RAAM by your lonesome is one hell of a trick.
Caught in a Locust ambush, the odds are stacked against Marcus, Dom and Carmine until they’re saved by the awesome arrival of the Cole Train: August Cole.
The Locust weapon of mass destruction may be impervious to attack from the outside, but it doesn’t count on Delta carving it to bits from the inside in one of Gears 2’s best and bloodiest sequences.
Gears 2 continues to improve the franchise gameplay switch-ups with an unforgettable fight against a giant toothy fish: the Leviathan.
The final level in Gears 2 goes out with a big bang and an awesome pay-off for fans who get to pilot a fully armed and operational Brumak as they stomp, shoot and boom their way to the end of the game.
The introduction of chainsaw duels in Gears 2, courtesy of the iconic Mark 2 Lancer’s chainsaw bayonet, meant that head-to-head melee fights descended into a frantic button mash to determine who sawed who in half.
The higher the wave in Horde, the harder the difficulty. Success in the latter waves is determined by locking down easily defensible positions… and being ready to abandon them when you’re overrun.
Other Locust grunts be damned. Some of the best fun in Epic’s topsy-turvy Beast mode is to continually use those pesky exploding Tickers to gib your enemies. Bonus points for successful sneak attacks.
It takes 40 Scorcher kills to unlock the brutal execution, but it’s well worth having the flamin’ patience to do so. The Scorcher execution is the best of a bunch of goretastically satisfying executions in Gears 3.
Judgment introduced optional Declassified missions throughout the campaign, with a different set of criteria required to succeed. People Can Fly saved the best – a cleaver-filled gib-fest – until late in the game.
With two E-hole covers down, the generator is your actual Alamo moment: do or die. Judgment’s Survival mode expanded on the Horde idea with classes and scores of enemies that meant you had to fight together or die together.
