We Reveal 5 New Shadowverse: Starforged Legends Cards

Venture out into the inky black with the next set for the Japanese CCG.

Shadowverse’s newest expansion, Starforged Legends, will be out on September 28, and is bringing 104 new cards themed around the heavens to the game. From what we’ve seen of the set so far, that means cards based around constellations and the zodiac, as well as a healthy dose of Greek mythology – Medusa, Perseus, and the like.

Mr. Full Moon.

And let’s not forget truly heavenly bodies…

It’s going to be interesting to see what Cygames introduces from a design perspective, as the news post announcing the changes to cards at the end of August had a section titled “Looking Forward” and said the following: “Up until now, we’ve tried to balance certain classes or strategies by designing strong cards. Unfortunately some of these cards ended up being stronger and more popular than anticipated. From our next card set… we’ll be re-examining our previous design direction of creating extremely powerful cards to strengthen certain classes and strategies. But we will, however, continue to pursue a design direction of creating an environment for new deck archetypes to emerge.”

That may well mean less of a wow factor for the set as a whole (think about when you first saw Heavenly Aegis! - not that Aegis was actually OP), but is definitely a positive direction in general, as new deck archetypes can be fostered in a more subtle and dynamic way.

One way or another it's going to be fun, and today IGN is pleased to be able to exclusively reveal five cards! Take a look and let us know what you think and how the meta is going to change with Starforged Legends.
