Patty Jenkins Returning to Direct Wonder Woman Sequel

The sequel is set to hit theaters on December 13, 2019.

Patty Jenkins is set to return and direct Wonder Woman 2.

IGN can confirm Jenkins has closed a deal to return to the director's chair, as well as co-write and produce the Wonder Woman sequel, which is currently set to hit theaters on December 13, 2019. It was reported last month Jenkins was close to finalizing a deal that would make her the highest paid female director in Hollywood.

Though an official figure still hasn't been revealed, THR's report suggests Jenkins may make anywhere in the $7 million-$9 million range and a sizable backend deal, which would earn her more money based on the film's financial gross. Jenkins reportedly made about $1 million for directing the first film.

Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is already signed on for the sequel, which is rumored to be set in the 1980s and for which Jenkins and producer Geoff Johns are currently developing a script for.

Released earlier this year, Wonder Woman has gone on to become the highest grossing DCEU film domestically and the highest-grossing movie by a female director. Wonder Woman also ranks as one of the summer's highest-grossing films after having become the highest-earning superhero origin film.

Wonder Woman will show up next in Justice League, which opens in theaters on November 17. The superhero is also rumored to appear in the Flashpoint movie.

Wonder Woman is currently available digitally and will hit Blu-ray and DVD on September 19.

Variety first reported Patty Jenkins' deal to return for Wonder Woman 2.
