Kingsman Director Shares Vision for Next Superman Film

"For me Superman is color, feel-good, heroic."

Matthew Vaughn has confirmed he's been in talks with Warner Bros. to helm the sequel to Man of Steel, and even shared his vision for the film.

Speaking to HeyUGuys at a press event for his upcoming film Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Vaughn confirmed reports from earlier this year that he's been in talks to direct the Superman sequel. After noting that he's currently planning for a third Kingsman movie, he said, "I don't know what I'm going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman."

In a subsequent interview with Collider, Vaughn discussed what he'd want to do with a Superman movie in the event he signs on to direct Man of Steel 2. "I think my main take would be, it's really boring but make a Superman film," he said.

"I just don't feel a proper Superman—I think [Richard] Donner did it to perfection for that time," he added, saying that for him, "Superman is color, feel-good, heroic" and "a beacon of light in the darkness." As such, he wants to "go back to the source material" and offer a modern take on the Donner version.

Donner's classic stars Christopher Reeve as the titular hero, and was released in 1978 to much critical acclaim, earning nominations for several Academy Awards.

Warner Bros. reportedly went back in "active development" on Man of Steel 2 last year, with the project being a "top priority for the studio." For more on the future of the DC Extended Universe, check out our overview of every upcoming DCEU movie.
