Why This Week's Amazing Spider-Man Might Be Worth the Hefty $10 Price Tag

Amazing Spider-Man #25, Batwoman #1 and more.

With dozens of comic books to choose from, let us show you which are the best coming out this week. Take a look at this list spotlighting our favorite comics that we know are money-well-spent and new books that look cool and are backed by some top-tier talent.

Check out our picks, then head to the comments to let us know what you’ll be buying this week!

Amazing Spider-Man #25 - $9.99
STL036636

Writer Dan Slott | Artists Stuart Immonen, Giuseppe Camuncoli | Cover Artist Alex Ross (Marvel Comics)

Marvel always goes big for landmark issues, and for Issue #25 we’re getting a 40-page story drawn by the living legend himself, Stuart Immonen. He’ll be kicking off “The Osborn Identity” story arc with writer Dan Slott, setting up the next big phase of Spider-Man’s life and cementing the return of his most insidious villain, Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin. No word yet on Matt Damon’s involvement but we’re keeping an eye out.

But there’s more! There are numerous “big secrets” teased for this issue, and those reveals will come in the several back-up stories (which were added to justify that big $10 price tag). A little bird told us that one of the twists will have Spider-fans absolutely screaming, and while we can’t tell if that was meant in a good way or a bad way, we do know that this is the first comic we’re cracking open this Wednesday to find out.

Neil Gaiman’s American Gods: Shadows #1 - $3.99
STL035995

Writers Neil Gaiman, P. Craig Russell | Artist P. Craig Russell | Cover Artist Glenn Fabry (Dark Horse Comics)

With Neil Gaiman being one of the most acclaimed and beloved figures in comics, we weren’t surprised to see his novel (and upcoming show) American Gods make its way to the medium.

This is a direct adaption of the novel, described as a story where “Shadow Moon just got out of jail, only to discover his wife is dead. Defeated, broke, and uncertain as to where to go from here, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, who employs him to serve as his bodyguard - thrusting Shadow into a deadly world of the supernatural, where ghosts of the past come back from the dead, and a brewing war between old and new gods hits a boiling point.”

If you’re excited for the show and want to know what to expect from what looks like it could be the Next Big Thing on TV, make sure to pick this up.

Batwoman #1 - $2.99
STL037078

Writers Marguerite Bennett, James Tynion IV | Artist Steve Epting (DC Comics)

Just hearing the names Marguerite Bennett, James Tynion IV and Steve Epting is enough to get us to buy any comic, but then you add in the fact that they’re doing Batwoman’s new ongoing series? Things just got too good to be true!

Batwoman is co-leading Batman’s team of young Gotham heroes over in Detective Comics, so this story follows her on a solo adventure that sees her traveling the world trying to stop a new bioweapon from getting into the wrong hands. Her journey brings her back to the island nation of Coryana where she spent years of her life between when she was kicked out of the military for being a lesbian and deciding to fight crime as Batwoman. And so this series will flesh out those missing years LOST-style as her past and present come crashing together.

The Batwoman: Rebirth #1 issue was a great primer to set the foundation for this story and now we’re ready to see Kate Kane out on her own once more.

Keep reading for Thor, Power Rangers and more!
